Egg fruit is a tropical fruit plant native to Central America (Panama and Mexico). Unlike what might seem from its name, it doesn't taste like an egg. But the inside of the fruit has a colour very similar to an egg yolk. The egg fruit needs to be fully ripe to be fit for consumption.
Egg fruit is medium-sized, roughly the size of a tennis ball. Its colour ranges from yellow to orange. The flesh is sweet and thick creamy, with a powdery texture.
